Mrs Dunwoody reflects on the significance of the creative arts and last week’s Junior School Art Show.
Thank you to all our guests for helping us celebrate the school’s 105th anniversary at the Gala Ball on Saturday, 21 June. The venue was sparkling, adorned with glitter, balloons and twinkling lights , setting the tone for a truly magical evening.
The fantastic performance of the Camberwell Girls Jazz Band greeted guests. They then enjoyed a generous spread of gourmet canapés, decadent desserts and beverages. Adding to the fun were the photobooth and video photobooth stations and a live sketch artist— all offering creative ways to capture joyful moments throughout the night.
We were also fortunate to have alum and current parent Emma Race (1993) as emcee. Her wit, warmth and professionalism kept the night flowing seamlessly and added a personal touch that resonated with everyone in attendance.
The evening peaked with the raffle announcement, silent auction and door prize winners, before the live band took to the stage. Their high-energy set had everyone dancing and singing along, rounding off a joyful celebration of 105 years of spirit, connection and community.
As part of the school’s 105th anniversary celebrations, a community-wide raffle called “8K Your Way” was conducted. Two fabulous main prizes were up for grabs: $8000 credit towards school fees for parents with children enrolled at Camberwell Girls in 2026 or $8000 travel vouchers supplied by Travel Associates in Canterbury for members of our community without children enrolled at Camberwell Girls in 2026.
The raffle certainly captured the imagination of the Camberwell Girls’ community, and it received very strong support from current parents, past parents, alums, staff, and friends of the school. The two lucky winners were both Year 12 parents, Vicky Wang and Spring Chen. Both are very good friends and are already planning a holiday together, in virtue of winning the two Travel Vouchers from Travel Associates. Thank you to everyone who supported the initiative; all funds raised will go towards reimagining Barbara Sutton Hall.
We were excited to host mock interviews for our Year 9 students, an annual event made possible only through the support and participation of our extended alum and parent community. Mock interviews provide students with invaluable experience in facing real, first-job interviews, allowing them to practice their responses and receive constructive feedback on their performance. The opportunity to engage with interviewers who are unfamiliar to them is particularly beneficial, closely mimicking real-world interview scenarios.
We extend a heartfelt thanks to our Camberwell Girls community for supporting this initiative and encourage anyone who would like to contribute to similar programs in the future to contact our Community and Engagement team via engagement@cggs .vic.edu.au and become a registered volunteer.
