Mrs. Dunwoody reflects on two significant occasions in the School's history that occurred in the past week.
This week, we proudly hosted the inaugural Generations Breakfast. It was a heartwarming celebration of families whose connections to Camberwell Girls Grammar School span multiple generations.
We were delighted to welcome 16 families—mothers, daughters and aunties, each with a unique story of how Camberwell Girls has shaped their lives across the decades. A highlight of the morning was hearing from several alum who shared heartfelt reflections on their time at Camberwell Girls. Their stories reminded us that the spirit of the school, the sense of belonging, empowerment, and community remains constant.
As we celebrate our 105th year, we are deeply honoured by the trust that families continue to place in Camberwell Girls to educate and nurture the next generation. As Deputy Principal, Mrs McClure so eloquently expressed:
“When a parent chooses to send their child to the school they once attended, it’s not just about academics or convenience. It’s a gesture of trust, of legacy, and of love. It says, this place shaped me, and I believe it will shape you too.”
The Generations Breakfast was more than just an event, it was a celebration of continuity, of shared values, and of the powerful role that education plays in shaping lives across time. We look forward to making this a cherished tradition in the years to come.
With the iconic Barbara Sutton Hall as our backdrop, members of the Camberwell Girls community including students, staff, Council Members, Life Governors, and generous donors, gathered for the official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Hall’s redevelopment. For over 35 years, this cherished space has brought us together, and now it begins an exciting new chapter.
We were honoured to welcome Murrundindi who delivered a heartfelt Welcome to Country. The ceremonial turning of the soil was led by Principal Mrs Dunwoody, Head of Performing Arts Ms Lyons, and Year 7 student Jenny W. Each represented a unique thread in the Hall’s story: vision, creativity, and the future.
A special moment came with the return of Former Principal Dr Barbara Fary OAM, who fondly recalled visiting the Hall’s construction site in 1988. Her presence at the start of its transformation was a touching full-circle moment.
We were also pleased to welcome key members of our school’s leadership, including Council Members and Life Governors, whose support has been vital to this project.
Representatives from our project partners 2Construct, MGS Architects, Accuraco Project Management, and Prowse Quantity Surveyors joined us to celebrate the beginning of this exciting redevelopment.
The project will transform Barbara Sutton Hall into a state-of-the-art facility, ensuring it continues to inspire and unite our community for generations to come. For updates on the project please visit
Students from Years 5–12, staff, and esteemed guests gathered in the awe-inspiring St Paul’s Cathedral for our annual Founders’ Service. We reflected on the extraordinary vision of our founders The Revd Hubert A. Brooksbank, Mr George D. Lawrence, The Revd James A. Schofield, and Dr Walter Summons. In 1919, with just eight primary students, they laid the foundation for what would become a thriving centre of learning and community.
We were privileged to welcome back two of our former Principals, Mrs Anne Feehan and Dr Barbara Fary OAM, who joined our current Principal, Mrs Dunwoody, in a powerful symbol of leadership across generations. Together, they represent the enduring values and evolving vision that have shaped CGGS over the past 105 years.
Also in attendance were Life Governors of the School, whose continued support and dedication are deeply appreciated. The service was enriched by the involvement of special alum. Val Dyke (Class of 1962) delivered a meaningful reading, while Barbara Richmond (Class of 1962) and her granddaughter, Audrey N (Year 9), lit candles representing the past and the future—a poignant reminder of the legacy that connects generations.
From humble beginnings to over a century of educational excellence, the Founders’ Service was a heartfelt celebration of our rich history and the enduring spirit of CGGS.

Two House Events, Year 9 Camp, Diversity Week, incursions, and excursions—it's been a busy fortnight!
The ELC children are exploring storytelling and colour theory, while students in Years 3 to 6 competed for their Houses.
In the past two weeks, the School welcomed community members for several events, including the Generations Breakfast, Founders' Service, and Groundbreaking Ceremony.
We acknowledge and pay respect to the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of the land on which the school is situated.
