Today, the Chair of the Council announces the appointment of new members to the School Council.
Throughout the opening weeks of Term 3, it has been pleasing to see students embracing the diverse range of opportunities available across the Secondary School. Our Senior School students have commenced the leadership application and interview process for 2027, while more broadly across Secondary School, many others have been actively involved in initiatives such as the Year 11 Soirée, environmental projects, enrichment opportunities, and preparations for the highly anticipated A Celebration of Barbara Sutton Hall – In Concert.
Over the past fortnight, we also celebrated the outstanding achievements of our students, including those recognised through the VCE Premier’s Awards, as highlighted in this week’s CamNews Editorial. We additionally acknowledged NAIDOC Week, which is held annually during the first week of July. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, providing an opportunity for our community to reflect on its important themes. To mark the occasion, the Library hosted displays of First Nations art, literature and dance, and welcomed Year 7 students for a First Nations History incursion led by Murrundindi. We thank all staff and students who contributed to these meaningful experiences.
In this edition of CamNews, we share highlights from a range of curricular and co-curricular pursuits, including VCE Chinese students’ participation in the Model United Nations program, the MAV Maths Games, a revegetation project in partnership with Camberwell (Boys) Grammar School, and much more. We are delighted to celebrate Year 9 student Hannah C, who recently returned from an extraordinary concert tour of Italy with the Australian Children’s Choir (ACC).
A member of the ACC since July 2024, Hannah joined fellow choristers in a series of prestigious performances across Italy, including the remarkable honour of singing at the Vatican in Rome on 30 June. The tour also featured participation in the Festival Internazionale Corale Verona Garda and other concerts presented by Classical Movements.
The Australian Children’s Choir is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and provides young singers with outstanding opportunities to perform at public and private events, charity fundraisers, radio broadcasts, and international festivals, including the World Choir Games.
Reflecting on the experience, Hannah said:
“This Italy tour was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, and it opened my eyes to a whole different culture of music. I met many new people from all over the world and had the privilege of singing in the Vatican, which amazed me with its size and architecture. Overall, this trip broadened my musical knowledge and gave me the opportunity to share my music with others.”
We congratulate Hannah on this wonderful achievement and commend her for representing both her choir and our school community with such distinction.

The Maths Association of Victoria (MAV) truly gave us an invaluable experience with the 2026 MAV games. We started the day off with Killer Sudoku which challenged both our critical thinking and collaboration skills to solve the complex problems. In our next challenge we were required to complete 50 questions that targeted a wide variety of mathematical expertise. From measurement to algebra, our knowledge and time-management abilities were put to the test to finish under the time pressure. What stood out in this challenge was the way our team was able to effectively communicate, asking for help when needed and making sure everyone was on the same page, ultimately allowing us to maximise our efficiency. In this experience, our teamwork really shone through.
The next game featured a competition between one member of your team against a student from another school. This initially confronted our social skills as everyone engaged in awkward conversation with a formidable adversary. However, over time, we were conversing as if we were already acquainted. This abated the stress as we found ourselves in a casual game rather than a high-stakes struggle. Called the Honeycomb game, players had to strategise to ensure cellblocks added up to the desired sum of 30 whilst attempting to block the opponents. Our next challenge was referred to as the “Relay Race” as a runner would collect one math challenge and teams were given three chances to achieve the correct answer. This was completely stressful as we were panicking to finish as many challenges as we could possibly do. Through this, we learnt the value of teamwork, using everyone’s strengths and communication to achieve the result whilst also knowing when to pass up a challenge.
Ultimately, MAV games was an experience of a lifetime! We were able to compete with like-minded individuals and ultimately, played games that we would never have imagined!

On 23 July, we hosted the Beyond Net Zero Network Meeting, bringing together 28 educators and sustainability advocates for a day of learning, networking, and inspiration. The event was jointly facilitated by the Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL) and Environment Education Victoria (EEV). Participants explored innovative approaches to waste reduction and sustainability, including presentations from Precious Plastic Melbourne and our students, who showcased the Makerspace Plastic Recycling Program. Attendees toured the School, observing the gardens, composting systems, recycling programs, and creative reuse projects. The day also featured insights into Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme and a discussion on the challenges and opportunities of becoming a net zero school. Key themes included embedding sustainability across school culture, curriculum, infrastructure, and leadership, while ensuring initiatives remain manageable and sustainable over time. The event highlighted the power of collaboration, student voice, and community connections in driving meaningful environmental change in schools.
The following day, fifteen students from Junior and Senior Schools participated in Camberwell Grammar’s Belmont Park Revegetation Project, helping to plant 140 indigenous plants as part of their 140-year anniversary. Working alongside Camberwell Grammar (Boys) School students and staff, they contributed to improving local biodiversity while gaining hands-on experience in environmental stewardship.

Congratulations to Anni Z, Eden C and Nini C on their successful admission to the prestigious Monash Scholars Program. These outstanding students were formally recognised and presented with their awards during Secondary School Assembly. The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity for the Camberwell Girls community to celebrate their achievement and commitment to academic excellence.
The Monash Scholars Program is a highly regarded initiative designed to support high-achieving secondary students through a range of enrichment opportunities, leadership development experiences and exposure to university life. Entry into the program is competitive, making this accomplishment a significant milestone for each student.
Through their dedication, curiosity and willingness to embrace new challenges, Anni, Eden and Nini have demonstrated the qualities that the program seeks to foster. Over the coming years, they will have access to workshops, events and mentoring opportunities that will help them explore future study and career pathways while developing valuable skills and connections.
We are incredibly proud of Anni, Eden and Nini and look forward to following their journey as Monash Scholars. We wish them every success as they take advantage of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead through this remarkable program.

Congratulations to Audrey on her outstanding achievement representing Australia at the U15 World Cup Qualifiers for Oceania in American Samoa. The Australian team delivered an exceptional performance throughout the tournament, finishing undefeated with six wins from six games and securing qualification for the 2027 U15 Women’s World Cup.
Audrey played an important role in the team’s success and gained invaluable experience competing at the international level. The tournament presented both exciting opportunities and challenges, and Audrey approached each with maturity, resilience and determination.
To represent Australia at such a high level at a young age is a remarkable accomplishment. Audrey should be immensely proud of her contribution to an undefeated campaign and helping Australia qualify for the 2027 U15 Women’s World Cup in Oklahoma City.
We are inspired by Audrey’s achievements and the way she has represented both her country and our school. Congratulations, Audrey, on an outstanding tournament, and we look forward to following your progress and celebrating your future successes.

The Camberwell Girls Saturday Netball program continues to thrive, with 13 teams competing in the 2026 Boroondara Netball Association competition.
Camberwell Girls has long maintained a strong presence within the Association, remaining competitive while fostering a culture of community, respect and hard work. Our students are consistently recognised for their sportsmanship, positive attitude and commitment to their teams.
Our program begins with Years 2 and 3 students, who participate in weekly sessions focused on learning the fundamental skills and rules of netball. From there, students progress to Year 4 competition teams and continue their development through to Year 12, where our senior teams compete in the Premier Division.
This year we introduced a Strength and Conditioning Program for students in Years 7 to 10, accompanied by increased training opportunities. The program has been enthusiastically embraced by students and has proven to be both beneficial and a lot of fun.
We have also seen a record number of our students engaging in their netball journey and undertaking the important role of umpiring. Each week, Camberwell Girls contributes 19 umpires to the Association, officiating games from the Year 4/5 competition through to Year 8 matches.
Becoming an umpire requires dedication and initiative. Students undertake self-directed learning, complete accreditation examinations, receive and act upon feedback, and are mentored by experienced umpires as they work towards national accreditation.
Congratulations to Alisha A (Year 11), who has recently been awarded her C Badge accreditation. Alisha has demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience and perseverance throughout her umpiring journey. She now joins three other Camberwell Girls students and one Grammarian who have achieved this national accreditation. We congratulate Alisha on this significant accomplishment and look forward to seeing more students attain their C Badge later this year.
Our dedicated coaching team, made up entirely of past Camberwell Girls students, continues to make an invaluable contribution to the program. Their expertise, encouragement and commitment to developing our players are a credit to both the netball program and the School. We are incredibly grateful for the positive impact they have on our students each week.
As the season progresses, we look forward to seeing teams compete in finals at the end of the term. Most importantly, we encourage all players to continue bringing their best attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn and improve.

It has been a busy start to Term 3 at the Secondary School with student achievements, extension opportunities and sporting success.
It has been a fortnight full of milestones at the Junior School, including their first assembly in Barbara Sutton Hall and Foundation celebrating 100 days of school.
Thanks to dedicated PFA volunteers, the Second-Hand Uniform Shop continues to support families across our community.
