Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of Term 3. It has been a term of action, and there have been many highlights.

In sport, highlights included GSV special events such as the Athletics Championship and Finals Evening, weekly sport successes (including our Senior A Badminton Team who were Premiers this week), Netball Finals, Foundation – Year 2 House Athletics, Years 3 – 6 District Athletics, Junior School Interschool Sport and Snowsports.

We had a wide range of events such as, Year 11 Soiree, Year 9 Social, Junior School Disco, The Little Mermaid, Ormiston Art Show, Celebration of Sport evening, Annual Music Concert at the Melbourne Recital Centre, School Captains’ You can’t be what you can’t see event, Father’s Day Breakfast, Reunions for Old Grammarians, Winter Sleepout, Confirmation Service, National Science Week, CamberWELL/Book Week and our Foundation students celebrated 100 days of school.

There were a range of competitions and experiences, including the FUSE Cup, Kew Future Leaders Speech Competition, German Poetry Competition, Chess tournaments, Years 8 and 9 Camps and Nanyang Girls’ High School Collaboration.

Finally, this week, we announced leadership positions for 2025 at the Secondary School, including the 2025 School Captains. It has been a busy Term!

I am very grateful to all our staff who coordinate and support these numerous opportunities that occur for our students in addition to our academic and wellbeing programs.

As you know, last week, we held our inaugural Giving Day on 4 September in support of the redevelopment of Barbara Sutton Hall. I know that many of you shared the exciting journey throughout the day online. By early evening, we had raised over $411,000, surpassing our original goal of $200,000. It was a wonderful success!

It was such a privilege to connect with donors and work with so many members of our community on the day. Teams of parents, Council Members, staff and some Year 12 student leaders assisted us on the day in our Boardroom by making calls to members of the community and managing logistics. I certainly enjoyed sharing the event with them.

Many volunteers who assisted on site during the day as well as donors who we called, shared their gratitude for the quality education that their daughters were receiving and the values-driven community that we embody. Many donors also commented that they were excited that we were focussing on the Barbara Sutton Hall; such an important community space in our School.

Thank you also to the many parents I have seen since the Giving Day who have congratulated us on the day’s success. It is through the interest and support of our whole community that we achieved this outstanding result, and I look forward to sharing more details about the project with you next term.

I hope that you enjoy the holiday break and some quality family time.

With best wishes,

Debbie Dunwoody
