Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we conclude Term 2, I would like to share with you some very special moments from our recent ELC – Year 6 Grandparents and Special Friends Day. These types of experiences provide the opportunity for extended family members and friends to share important learning experiences at Camberwell Girls.

This year we combined the year levels into one day with multiple sessions, streamlining the event for our visitors and enabling them to visit multiple siblings on the same day.  The change in format created a wonderful sense of occasion and celebration.

Our students, from the very youngest in ELC through to Year 6, were able to demonstrate their sense of agency as learners as they independently showcased their learning and classroom environment, participating in activities with their guests.

We understand the importance of intergenerational knowledge transfer and cultural continuity for young people. This day provided an opportunity for our students to learn from their ‘elders’ and share life skills and experiences. For example, the Early Learning 4 Part Time classroom, were taught songs from their grandparents’ childhood, extending their inquiry into the ‘kinship of songs’.

Our specialist teachers in Art, Music, Library and Science all designed activities for our students and their special guests, enabling our grandparents and special friends to experience more of our Ormiston campus. There was also the opportunity to relax and enjoy morning tea.

Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends who were able to join us on the day and make this such a joyous occasion.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and safe holiday break and hope that you are able to enjoy family time together. I look forward to welcoming our students to Term 3 on Tuesday 16 July 2024.

With best wishes,
