Thank You to Volunteers

Our deep commitment to service is underpinned by our School Motto, Utilis in Ministerium (Useful in Service).  Service has been a part of the fabric of a Camberwell Girls education for over 100 years and our students learn about and engage in service in many ways.

We are also very fortunate to have a strong group of parents and old grammarians who very generously serve our community.  Volunteering is an act of giving which is important and valuable in itself.  In volunteering, these adults are important role models for our students.

My husband Cameron and I were delighted to invite our Camberwell Girls volunteers to a special ‘thank you’ celebration evening in our home last week.  We hosted almost one hundred volunteers for a very enjoyable social evening.

I had the opportunity to thank our volunteers for gifting their precious time to support our students, initiatives and programs.  We greatly value their connectedness and dedication to the school as they understand the importance of providing great learning and social experiences for students and families.

I was also pleased to personally acknowledge our dedicated Year 12 parent volunteers who have been tirelesssupporters over the years and who will also be leaving the school at the end of the year.

We have enjoyed many celebrations this year. The largest community-building event was the Moonlight Movie Night in March, where in excess of 100 parents and alumnae volunteered to ensure an entertaining and connecting experience for all.   Our parents have also assisted with the

  • Pre-show refreshments for Performing Arts and House events
  • Mother’s Day Breakfast
  • Father’s Day Breakfast
  • Trivia night
  • AFL footy night
  • Celebration of Sport event and supporting House Carnivals
  • VCE Art Exhibition
  • Upcoming Carols event

By fundraising our community groups also help to provide special resources for the students and the school. This year the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) under the leadership of Cindy Wong assisted us to purchase a new minibus.  They also supported the Year 6 Graduation and Year 12 Valedictory Dinner for students.

Members of the Old Grammarian’s Association (OGA) led by Cara Davey, have also been actively engaged in the school this year.  Grammarians have presented to students and parents at the Emerging Technologies Careers Evening and, with parents, assisted with the World of Work Interview program. The OGA have also supported the OGA Public Speaking program, opened the VCE Art Show and wrote Letters of Encouragement to our Year 12 students prior to their examinations.

All of these activities undertaken by our community groups are supported by our staff and I would particularly like to thank the members of our Community Engagement team – Vanessa, Kate, Karen and Sarah.  They work closely alongside and support our parent and old grammarian volunteers, to enable them to facilitate opportunities.

The depth of our programs at Camberwell Girls is enhanced by the contribution and service of many volunteers.  I express my deepest gratitude to them as they enrich our community and actively support the education of our students.

We look forward to an even better year in 2024!

With best wishes
