Welcome back to Term Two. We hope the holiday break provided families with time to pause, reconnect and enjoy the lingering warmth of autumn before the cooler months settle in.
This term began with a strong sense of momentum across the School. The Learning Conversations held earlier this week provided an important opportunity for students, families and teachers to come together in partnership and to reflect on progress, celebrate growth and set clear intentions for the learning journey ahead. Alongside this, Term Two brings with it a rich and exciting program of learning, co-curricular opportunities and community moments, and we look forward to the energy that this term always brings.
We also took time last week to come together in remembrance and reflection for ANZAC Day. On Friday, our school community gathered for a meaningful service on campus, honouring the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr Robert Webster OAM, past President of the PFA, for his poignant reflection acknowledging those who served without wearing a service uniform, and to Ms Kylie Rose and Mr Joshua Cozzio, along with the students involved, for their thoughtful contributions to this important service.
On Saturday 25 April, a group of Year 6 and Year 9 students proudly represented Camberwell Girls at the Kew ANZAC Dawn Service, demonstrating dignity, respect and leadership on behalf of our community. These moments remind us of the enduring importance of service, gratitude and reflection, values that continue to shape the experiences and opportunities we offer our students.
As we look ahead, we wish all members of our community a productive, engaging and rewarding term ahead, filled with learning, connection and opportunity.

Our Year 6 School Captains – Ayati P and Olivia D, and three Middle School Ambassadors – Mia W, Clarissa C, and Sarvani P – attended the Kew ANZAC Day Dawn Service, hosted by Trinity Grammar School, with the support of Boroondara Police, the Holy Trinity community, Glenferrie Brass, and local MP Jess Wilson.
The service provided an important time for pause, reflection, and gratitude. Students heard about the efforts and sacrifices of servicemen and women from the Kew community, before laying wreaths in remembrance of those who lost their lives in times of war. As dawn broke, the sounding of the Last Post, a minute’s silence, and the Reveille offered a powerful and solemn moment of remembrance, before we came together to sing the National Anthem. Following the service, attendees had the opportunity to share in the traditional gunfire breakfast.

The ANZAC Day Assembly was held on Friday 24 April, providing a respectful and reflective opportunity to honour those who have served Australia in times of war and conflict.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Robert Webster OAM, a Vietnam War veteran who served with the 26 Transport Company as part of the Royal Australian Army Service Corps. Dr Webster has dedicated more than four decades to the Returned and Services League (RSL), an organisation that plays a vital role in supporting veterans and their families. Throughout his service, he held a range of senior leadership positions, including State Treasurer, Senior Vice President and President of RSL Victoria from 2017 to 2025. His address highlighted the importance of remembrance, service and ongoing support for those who have served.
Dr Webster also shared compelling insights into the involvement of Australian men and women in Serbia during the First World War, describing how their service was deeply valued and honoured by the Serbian people. This perspective broadened understanding of Australia’s contribution beyond the more familiar theatres of war.
The ceremony was enhanced by Olivia H’s outstanding performance of The Last Post and The Rouse on the bugle to honour sacrifice made by ANZAC forces and mark remembrance. Amber C then delivered a moving a cappella rendition of In Flanders Fields, a poem that powerfully reflects the cost of war and the responsibility carried by future generations.
ANZAC Day serves as a powerful reminder that remembering the past strengthens our shared commitment to respect, service and care for others.

The Term 1 GSV Diving and Swimming campaign concluded in fine style for Camberwell Girls on a glorious night at MSAC in the final week of Term 1.
In Diving, Cleo S-A (Year 9) progressed to Finals Evening for a second successive year and competed with tremendous artistic flair to record a fifth-place finish in the Intermediate Final.
Our swimmers qualified for twenty-eight events and provided incredible sporting theatre and drama, with several close finishes for podium places. It proved to be a wonderful night in the outdoor 50 metre pool, with a combined haul of two silver and three bronze medals.
The discipline of Breaststroke produced the platform for silver medal achievement, with Claire Z (Year 7) 50 Metre Breaststroke and Chelsea Z (Year 8) 50 Metre Breaststroke touching the wall in second position.
Claire Z (Year 7) was superb across her program, claiming a further two bronze medals to compliment her silver. Claire claimed bronze in the Year 7 50 Metre Backstroke and joined Year 7 teammates Janice P, Jade R, and Alessandra R to record a bronze medal performance in the Year 7 4 x 50 Metre Medley Relay.
School Captain and Camberwell Girls Aquatic legend, Anneka S (Year 12) brought the curtain down on her amazing career competing at Finals Evenings with a bronze medal in the Year 12 50 Metre Backstroke.
Thank you also to Year 12 students Claire F and Christina W for their significant contribution to GSV Swimming at Camberwell Girls over several years. The last event on the program, the Year 12 4 x 50 metre Freestyle Relay was a fitting finale for Anneka, Christina, and Claire, narrowly missing a place on the podium by less than a second in a thrilling finish.
With Camberwell Girls competing at the Division 1 Diving and Swimming Championship level in the same term for the first time in the 26 year history of GSV, now is the time to seize this great momentum and have as many students as possible participate in the Camberwell Girls Swim School, Squad and Camberwell Girls Aquatic Swim Club programs throughout 2026. Please email the following staff members to have your children join our flourishing swimming programs in Term 2 and beyond:

Continuing from her silver medal winning performance at the GSV Finals Evening, Chelsea Z (Year 8) ventured north to compete in the Australian Age Championships at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre during the Term 1 school holidays.

In her first experience at this competition, Chelsea recorded the following results:

The final day of Term 1 saw our students and staff decked out in their finest House accoutrements to showcase the vibrant House spirit that lives and breathes at Camberwell Girls.
Deepdene Park provided the picturesque backdrop for the staging of the annual House Cross Country Carnival, with perfect weather conditions making for a wonderful event.
As in previous years, students had the opportunity to either compete in a 2-kilometre House race or a 3-kilometre Championship race.
Congratulations to Hanna L (Year 9) who proved to be the fastest student at Camberwell Girls, completing her 3-kilometre race in a scintillating time of 12 minutes and 7 seconds. A new term has brought forth a new instalment of sports in which students have registered to play for the Term 2 GSV Weekly Sport competitions. They are AFL, AFL 9s, Hockey, and Netball.
Divisions commenced with Round 1 action this week on the following dates:
Year 11 student Millie M is dominating the sporting landscape this year with her recent selection to the U18 Northern Knights, after impressing in the 16 Years Futures Program.
A key defender by trade, Millie favours playing in the Full Back and Centre Half Back positions, committed to the contested marking situations, which is evidenced by her high-pressure ratings data accrued in matches. Millie is confident in the one-on-one contests as well as leaving her direct opponent to create the numerical advantage, when supporting her fellow defensive teammates.
Millie has been preparing diligently for a huge 2026 season, completing an impressive pre-season training regimen and attaining a level of fitness that saw her blitz the field in the Year 11 Championship Race at the House Cross Country Carnival.
The Camberwell Girls Senior AFL team will benefit from Millie’s participation in the Term Two GSV competition which begins with Round 1 action this afternoon!
