Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2026 school year at Camberwell Girls Grammar School!  I hope you enjoyed some relaxing time with family and friends during the holiday break and that everyone is excited about returning to school!

Following a number of energising staff days, we’ve enjoyed welcoming our students back to school with the Year 7 students onsite from last Friday followed by staggered returns with all students on Tuesday.  This is always an energising time as you feel the excitement of the promise of new beginnings and opportunities, especially for students beginning at the significant entry milestones in Early Learning 3, Foundation and Year 7.

This year we are welcoming 123 new students and their families to Camberwell Girls – 58 students in Junior School, 63 students in Year 7, and 12 students in Years 8 to 12.  I look forward to meeting parents and guardians at our welcome events across the next two weeks having already held our Year 7 Commencement Service and Dinner as well as our Parents and Friends Association Welcome Evening last night.

At the conclusion of 2025 we celebrated many student talents, reflections and achievements at Presentation and Graduation events.  This was followed by the news of another year of outstanding VCE results and subsequent university offers for the Class of 2025.  Our outstanding VCE results include:

  • A Median ATAR of 93.2
  • 12% of students achieved an ATAR >99 (placing them in the top 1% of the State)
  • 23% of students achieved an ATAR >98 (placing them in the top 2% of the State)
  • 44% of students achieved an ATAR >95 (placing them in the top 5% of the State)
  • 55% of students achieved an ATAR >90 (placing them in the top 10% of the State)

There is also a great sense of satisfaction in the personal stories behind the achievements of the Year 12 cohort at the end of the year.  As we all know, the ATAR tells only one part of the story and our students’ contributions to the Camberwell Girls community and service to the wider community are also valuable in a holistic education.

I would like to thank our VCE teachers for their commitment to and support of the girls during their final years of schooling.  It is important to also recognise teachers from earlier years as they too engaged, inspired and supported the girls throughout their journey to young adulthood.

Over the holiday period works have continued with our Barbara Sutton Hall renovation and the project is still running to time.  The Early Learning Centre playground has also been developed with greater soft fall areas and playground equipment.  There have been a number of staff office conversions as well as replacement of external building panels in Junior School.  We maximise this period of time to undertake planned and preventative maintenance across the school.

We commence the year with a number of staff in new positions of responsibility and also new staff to the school.  Ms Kate Manners, current member of our Senior Management Team is moving into the role of Director of Teaching and Learning (Years 7-12) this year.  Kate was our Director of Strategic Initiatives and has also held the position of Deputy Head of Senior School -Teaching and Learning at Camberwell Girls.  She will work closely with the Heads of Department to enhance our evidence-informed practices to drive improvement in student learning outcomes as well as nurture the skills and attributes needed for the future.
