Camberwell Girls Grammar School (CGGS) has a proud history of providing Means-Tested Scholarships. These scholarships have enabled many students to attend CGGS, who would otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so.
This year we are enormously proud to introduce you to Maya Jones, a Means-Tested Scholarship recipient who graduated in 2022.
As you will learn , the opportunity afforded to Maya to attend CGGS has had a profound impact, not only on Maya’s life but also on the life of the school, through her many significant contributions.
In 2022, with the support and generosity of former student, Val Dyke (1962), the Annual Appeal was able to realise two Means-Tested Scholarships – the Miss Dorothy Hall Scholarship and the Miss Val Dyke Scholarship. This has in turn enabled two most deserving scholarship beneficiaries to commence at the school in 2023 – young women who would not normally have been able to afford a CGGS education.
As is often stated, a little goes a long way and it was wonderful to have 79 donors contribute to the Annual Appeal last year. Every donation, no matter the size, made a real difference.
Our aim this year is to build upon the success of 2022. We would like to see an increase in the number of donors from our community, enabling us to realise a third Means-Tested Scholarship, to be offered in 2024.
Together we can make a difference by supporting students such as Maya to join our wonderful school. We can instil a love of learning and nurture within them a global mindset, dedicated to the creation of a more just and sustainable future.
During her six years at secondary school, Maya was an exemplary student – excelling in her academic studies and making a broad and significant contribution to the wider life of the school.
In 2021, Maya was Lawrence House Drama Captain. The following year, Maya was appointed the inaugural School Ambassador. A significant role in the Student Leadership Team, Maya represented CGGS at many key events.
During her journey at CGGS Maya was the recipient of the prestigious Double House Colours, which was a testament to her extraordinary contribution to House events. As a result of her contributions to the Co-Curricular Program, Maya also obtained Full Colours in Drama and Service and was a worthy recipient of a Citizenship Award in Year 12.
