Over the last two months, the transformation of Barbara Sutton Hall has shifted gears. Demolition is complete, foundations are laid, and construction is now in full swing with significant progress unfolding both inside and out.
Extensive scaffolding has been assembled inside the auditorium to enable the installation of structural steel. This scaffolding has provided the necessary protection to carefully preserve the original wooden floorboards, which will remain an important feature of the completed hall. In the coming weeks, ceiling works, including rigging, painting and electrical installation, will also begin.
Electrical rough-in has commenced throughout the building, laying the groundwork for the services that will power the revitalised Hall and bring education and performance to life.
Externally, work on the extension of the façade has begun, with brickwork now rising to frame the building’s new entrance and refreshed presence on Torrington Street. Meanwhile, concrete structure works through the new lift facilities are advancing, with further slab pours and the installation of structural steel scheduled in the weeks ahead.
To bring this progress to life, we’re delighted to share a new video from our construction partner 2Construct, showcasing the transformation so far.
The construction phase of Barbara Sutton Hall continues to advance in strides, and we look forward to sharing the next milestone with you soon.
We acknowledge and pay respect to the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of the land on which the school is situated.
