Steel, Structure and Form Emerge

Over the Christmas and New Year holiday period, significant progress has continued across the Barbara Sutton Hall redevelopment. The site has remained a vibrant hub of activity, with work advancing steadily toward completion.

At the start of Term 1, a large crane was positioned on Woodstock Street to enable the delivery and installation of heating, cooling and ventilation units. These systems will significantly improve climate control and air circulation throughout the Hall, enhancing comfort for students, staff and our wider community.

Inside the building, most of the plasterboard walls and ceilings have now been installed, giving shape to the newly reconfigured spaces. Structural steel installation has been completed throughout the foyers and main pedestrian circulation areas, and construction of the lift shaft is now complete – with the lift itself also installed – marking another important step in improving accessibility throughout the building.

Within the auditorium, high-level painting has been finished, and the extensive scaffolding has been removed, offering a clear view of the space as it begins to take its final form. Services such as electrical and data are now largely complete. Timber door and window frame installation remains in progress, increasing natural light in music rooms and rehearsal studios. Flooring has also been laid in wet areas.

Inside the Auditorium, the scaffolding has been removed and high-reach areas painted.
Externally, ground-floor brickwork infills have been completed using specialist cream-coloured bricks, adding texture and softness to the renewed façade.
The ground-level south-facing entrance to Barbara Sutton Hall is starting to take shape.

We are pleased to report that the redevelopment remains largely on schedule and within budget, with target completion anticipated at the end of Term 2, 2026.

To capture the scale and pace of this progress, we invite you to view the latest construction time-lapse, showcasing the transformation from late 2025 to early 2026.
