Alice Pung
Growing up Asian in Australia
Alice Pung is one of Australia’s most talented and celebrated young writers. A child of Chinese immigrants, Pung was raised in Melbourne’s western suburbs. She burst onto the literary scene when she was just 25 with her award-winning memoir, Unpolished Gem. A lawyer and teacher, she has written children’s and young-adult fiction, as well as a novel exploring her father’s experiences on the Cambodian Killing Fields. Pung conceived of and edited the hugely popular anthology Growing Up Asian in Australia, a collection of stories that give voice to the children of Asian immigrants.
Come and hear one of Australia’s most sought-after public speakers discuss her life, work and influences.
